If you and your colleagues are suffering from Zoom fatigue, it’s time to upgrade your meetings to more fully engage people. I’ve been training facilitators to increase the engagement of people in their meetings and programs by using virtual collaboration tools (see below). They all said, “I didn’t know it could be so much fun!”
My colleague Sheri Kennedy, who is a graphic recorder, created this beautiful graphic in reaction to my workshop on “Creating virtual engagement and collaboration”. She captured the essence of the tools we used: whiteboard, annotations, jamboard, vision board and polls.
The functions that we do in many of our meetings include:
- Brainstorming, clustering, affinity mapping
- Collective sense-making: Mindmapping, SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats);
- Decision making: for example, to distinguish Urgent vs. Important tasks; Effort vs. Impact – our team might be asking: which tasks take less effort and have maximal impact
- Surveys – for example, for a straw poll, or to inform a decision
There are tools for all of these functions online, which you can easily incorporate into your meetings, such as: Jamboard, Googledocs, Google slides, Google drawings and Zoom whiteboards. Here are some examples of the tools that we generated:

“Although there are lots of Zoom training videos, this was on the top of my list. Thank you!”
Hope to see you on August 19!
